Lady Patriots roll in Burkett

NEW MADISON- With a final score that showed a 60 point blow-out, one would be tempted to ask. “is Tri-Village that good or is Arcanum that bad?”

The answer is, the Lady Patriots are that good. Against what would be a normal team, Arcanum is right there winning or close to it. Tri-Village isn’t a normal team.

The Patriots put four in double figures, led by all, senior Kayla Linkous with 24 points. The Pats saw Krystal Falknor with 14 as well as Shaye Thomas and Teha Richards with 10... as Arcanum ran into the buzz saw that is Tri-Village Friday night as the Patriots rolled to a convincing 79-19 victory over the Trojans.

The Patriots defense created 20 first half Arcanum turnovers and 42 overall, setting the tone for the night.

“I thought our defense did set the tone early and will do that this season,” sad Pats coach Brad Gray. “I thought Teha really got after the ball defensively and I though the rest of the team fed off of that. Going into the season, my question mark was well could we play defensively and I think we came out and showed that. We have to do this every night on defense.”

With such a lopsided score, Gray still saw areas for improvement.

“I think we missed too many lay-ups,” Gray said. “We left too many points out there on the floor tonight. Against good teams, you can’t afford to give those opportunities up because you don’t get them too often. We had a good start tonight and we kept the gas pedal down.”

Down 28-3 after one and 49-6 at the break, it was all over except the shouting.

Looking at a deficit that was next to impossible to overcome, Trojans coach Rachael Fearon was optimistic about her team’s performance.

“I’m proud of my girls,” said first year Arcanum coach Rachael Fearon. “I believe they played as hard as they could play tonight with so much being thrown at them. We are going to be fine. Tri-Village is a very nice team and I told my girls they will be one of the best teams we will see this season. We will face other teams of this caliber too, but Tri-Village is a nice, well rounded team. You can tell by watching them that this team has been together for a long time. The team continuity is there. The score doesn’t tell the whole story here. I told my girls before the game started, just go out there and give it everything you got. They did that. All we can do is work hard and improve and that‘s what we are going to do.”
