Week six of the 2011 season had it all – big games, huge upsets, unexpected blowouts, thrilling finishes and the end of losing skids.

Yes, week six may have been the most exciting week of football.

Starting in Casstown, the only two teams unbeaten in conference play hooked up as Covington traveled to Miami East for the fiftieth meeting in a long-standing rivalry that dates back to 1959.

And the game lived up to the billing as both teams left it all on the field for 48 minutes. It was a very physical game, but as clean of a game you will see by two league rivals. The respect between these two teams was evident as the kids would help each other up after each play.

In the end it was Covington who came out on top by the score of 19-0. The Buccs scored on a 12-yard run by Isaiah Winston, a 60-yard run by Trent Tobias and a 57-yard pass and catch from Tobias to Kyler Deeter.

Covington (6-0, 5-0) hosts Twin Valley South next week, while Miami East (4-2, 4-1) travels to Tri-County North.

And the Vikings will face a talented team in Tri-County North – a team that handed Bradford its third straight defeat by the score of 50-22.

The Panthers jumped out to a 28-0 lead at the half and never looked back as six different kids scored in the contest and the defense recorded a safety.

The win by the Panthers (4-2, 4-1) keep their playoff hopes alive, while Bradford (2-4, 1-4) looks to get back on track next week against Arcanum.

And it was Arcanum (3-3, 3-2) that posted a huge upset in the minds of many – capturing a thrilling 15-12 victory at Ansonia (4-2, 3-2).

The Trojan defense came up big with two defensive stops deep inside their own territory, while the offense came through with touchdowns by Dallas Johnson and Devin Gilbert.

Arcanum looks to make it four straight next week at Bradford, while Ansonia travels to Mississinawa Valley next week.

Mississinawa (0-6, 0-5) is still looking for its first win after falling to National Trail 15-14. The victory for the Blazers ends a 23-game losing streak and is the first home win in seven years. It’s also the first homecoming win for National Trail in a decade.

The Blazers used a safety, a 65-yard return by Ben Callahan and a touchdown run by Ben Ballinger to capture the thrilling win for first-year coach Tony Sonsini.

The Blazers (1-5, 1-4) travel to Bethel next week – a team that ended a three-game losing streak with a 23-6 win over Twin Valley South.

The Bees used a stellar defensive effort, a safety by the special teams, and touchdowns by Jon Ellerbrock, Ben Seale and Reed Pelphrey to improve to 3-3 overall and 2-3 in the CCC.
