Arcanum holds off Tri-Village

Lady Trojans back on track
By George Starks

ARCANUM- After losing back to back Cross County Conference games to Miami East and National Trail, the Arcanum Lady Trojans got back on the winning side of the ledger Thursday.

A very determined Tri-Village team came in for a non-conference game and made things interesting before the Trojans posted a 10-5 victory.

“It feels good to get back in the win column,” said Arcanum coach Rick Stone. “We came out yesterday and hit the ball hard but we were hitting it right at the National Trail defense. Today, we hit the ball hard and found the gaps and got the job done.”

Arcanum got things going in the opening frame, plating three runs, coming from rbi singles from Cheyenne Aikman and Ejria Nealeigh.

The Trojans got three more in the second with an rbi single from Tara Simpson and a double from Allison Dill that plated two, giving the Trojans a 6-0 lead.

Things would stay that way until the fourth. With two on and one out, senior Kayla Linkous ripped a double to left to score two runs.

Elizabeth Collins would knock in two with a hard shot to left and the Patriots were right back in it, down 6-4, despite the Trojans scoring two in the bottom of the frame.

“When they scored the four runs, I thought to myself, here we go again,” said Stone. “I told the girls when we got the lead that we can’t relax. Tri-Village is a good team and they have improved tremendously. We got the lead and they came fighting back. My girls hung together. They responded and got the job done.”

On offense, the Trojans pounded out 11 hits to support the 10 runs scored. Dill led the hit parade, reaching base four times, once by a Patriot error, scoring twice with three hits. Simpson, Nealeigh, Brooklyn Baker and Katie Hermon all collected two hits in support.

“It’s nice to see the bats come back to life tonight,” Stone said. “I don’t know what happened to the bats against Miami East but this is a tough conference and you better be ready to come and play everyday.”

The Trojans traveled to Tri-County North Friday and will battle Eaton today.
