Lady Jets win, Lady Roaders unsuccessful

NEW MADISON- For the third straight game the lady Patriots got out to a quick start scoring 25 points in the opening quarter. Teha Richards scored 10 points and Krystal Falknor found success inside for eight points to pace the Patriots.

However, Newton was able to find success against the T-V half court defense scoring 10 points early on to try and keep pace.

“Newton Coach Neil Hans was able to get his girls to do some things against us that we didn’t see in our first two games, said Coach Brad Gray. “They baited us into a run and jump and then went backdoor and found some easy baskets…but we were able to make adjustments to take that away,” added Gray.

The Tri-Village scoring pace slowed a bit in the 2nd period…but they held a 38-10 halftime advantage.

The Patriots defense continued to frustrate the Indians by holding them scoreless in the 3rd frame while building a 49-10 lead.

Tri-Village struggled a bit offensively in the period until Teha Richards and Shaye Thomas got them going again off the break with Richards scoring 8 and Thomas 4 points.

In the final stanza the Patriots put up 19 points to run away from Newton on their way to a 68-22 Cross County Conference victory win.

“We got the win, although it wasn’t overall a great effort by our team, we had moments where we just didn’t execute and maintain our intensity,” commented Gray.

“Teha really has it going right now and her defense is just incredible, said Gray. She has really improved her shot from last year and is shooting it real well,” praised Gray.

Teha would lead 4 Patriots in double figures with 27 points, Krystal Falknor, Ecko Brown and Shaye Thomas added 10 points apiece in the win.

Tri-Village goes to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in conference. They are back in action on Saturday at home against National Trail. The JV girls will start at 3pm, the JV boys are at 4:30 and the Varsity girls will start at 6pm. The Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will take place after the girls game and just before the Varsity boys tip off at 7:30pm.

In JV action the girls were able to pull out a close win 28-27 to also remain undefeated at 3-0. Taylor Dubbs led the PATS with 7 points.

Lady Jets top Bethel

PITSBURG- Franklin Monroe junior Taylor Robins dumped in 16 points to help lead the Lady Jets to a 54-21 victory over Bethel Thursday.

Also getting in the scoring column for FM was freshmen Morgan Booher with 10.

The victory raises the Jets record to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the Cross County Conference.

Tuesday, Franklin Monroe will entertain Brookville in a non-conference match-up.

Lady Roaders unsuccessful in conference opener

BRADFORD- Bradford came out of the gates in grand style but in the end, it was Covington that proved to be too much.

After the dust had settled, the Roaders were on the short end of a 51-36 score.

Haley Patty led the homestanding Roaders with 11 points while Gabby Fair pulled down 14 boards in support.

Bradford, 0-1, will face Miami East on Thursday.
