Lady Patriots dismantle New Bremen
T-V remains undefeated

NEW MADISON- Coming in with a 5-4 seasonal record, the New Bremen Lady Cardinals rolled into New Madison Saturday looking to upset Tri-Village and hand the Patriots their first loss of the season.

It’s no secret when a team from the Midwest Athletic Conference is on the schedule, the record makes no difference.

It is the MAC and that says it all! Fortunately, no one from Tri-Village got the memo.

Holding a 14-10 lead after one, the Patriots went off on offense and from the second quarter on, it was all Patriots.

While the offense would put up 54 points in the final three frames, the Patriot defense would shine, holding the Cardinals to just 22 points in that same time frame.

When the final buzzer had sounded, the scoreboard saw the Patriots as 68-32 winners.

With the offense and defense clicking, Tri-Village literally controlled every aspect of the contest, starting with the board work.

While giving the Cards extra shots at times, especially in the opening frame, Tri-Village out-rebounded New Bremen 37-29 with 11 of those coming off the offensive glass.

“I thought we were solid in the first half on the boards even though we gave up six offensive rebounds in the first quarter,” said Patriots coach Brad Grey. “I think we held them to two or three in the second quarter.”

Of the 37 rebounds, Krystal Falknor pulled in 14 with six on the offensive glass.

“Krystal really set the tone for us,” said Grey. “I told the girls in the locker room at half-time that I didn’t know what happened and they told me it was because of the way Krystal came out and played and we all fed off that. I hope she understands that.”

With Shaye Thomas in foul trouble, the Tri-Village bench sprang into gear as senior Elizabeth Collins and sophomore Raya Mikesell were called on to pick up the slack.

Collins would finish with eight points and three boards while Mikesell recorded four points and collected three rebounds in support of the team’s victory.

“Our kids played with so much energy,” said Grey. “Shaye was on the bench with three fouls in the second quarter and our kids kept plugging away. We handled the pressure well and was finding the open person. With Shaye on the bench, we didn’t struggle today. I’m proud of the effort.

Tri-Village put three in double figures with Falknor leading the way with 15 for a double-double with Thomas adding 11 and Teha Richards 10 in support. Echo Brown added nine for the Patriots.

With the win, Tri-Village goes to 9-0 on the season and will travel to Casstown Thursday to battle Miami East in a crucial Cross County Conference game.
