NEW MADISON- It’s been eight months for Tri-Village to live with a heart-breaking overtime loss to the number one Jackson Center Tigers in the District finals. With almost the entire team back from last year they couldn’t wait to hit the hardwood on a mission to take care of unfinished business.

Visiting Mississinawa Valley was the unfortunate team to have to face Tri-Village. The Patriots took the first step toward their goal relieving some pain by overwhelming the Blackhawks in a total team effort with a convincing win by the score of 85-35.

The Patriots jumped on MV in the opening quarter to gain a 20-11 lead. Tyler Cook did early damage inside scoring the first six points. Shade Brubaker connected on two treys and Matt Werner, Andrew Willcox and Kyle Pipenger all got on the board in the quarter.

Andrew Willcox added excitement by attempting a two-hand dunk off an alley-oop… but was fouled at the rim.

The Patriots shared the wealth scoring in the second frame as Pipenger got it rolling early then another trey by Brubaker that was followed by a few more fielders from Cook and a lay-up from Werner. Then late in the frame sophomore Colton Linkous got in the act as he finished the scoring with an old fashioned three-point play and a modern day three-pointer to close the half with the Patriots doubling the Blackhawks 44-22.

“I thought we got off to a phenomenal start offensively tonight, said head coach Josh Sagester. “We were a little soft on defense and we talked about that at the half.”

The talk must have worked as Tri-Village clamped down holding the Blackhawks to just 13 second half points.

The extra focus on defense sparked Tri-Village as they continued the offensive assault by putting up 26 points in the third frame. Shade Brubaker had the hot-hand outside connecting on 3 more trifecta's for a total of six for the game.

Colton Linkous added to the outside assault with another trey and a fielder and Tyler Cook continued to bang away inside.

In the final stanza the Patriots were simply having fun and sharing the basketball trying to get everyone involved. Kaleb Chowning got on the board and Tri-Village would close out the contest to earn their first win of the season 85-35.

“It was fun to watch the group of kids play tonight, beamed Sagester. These guys have put a lot of work into the game and it showed. They shared the ball making the extra pass and you can’t teach unselfish play and it’s neat to see how excited they were for each other,” concluded Sagester.

Four Patriots scored double figures with Shade Brubaker leading with 21, Tyler Cook 20, Kyle Pipenger 16 and Colton Linkous had 15 points.

In JV action the boys pulled ahead late to beat the Blackhawks. Damion Cook led them with 19 and Tyler VanWinkle added 15 points.
