NEW MADISON- Junior Kyle Pipenger is one of the best in Darke County when it comes to basketball.

In a season that has seen Tri-Village lose just one game through December, a loss to Franklin Monroe in the Holiday Tournament, Pipenger has done nothing but shine in Darke County in December.

With the last name of Pipenger, basketball and the name itself go hand in hand at Tri-Village

“I’m very proud to wear this uniform,” admitted the Patriot junior. “I like to win and winning basketball is what it’s all about here. But without Sag (Josh Sagester) I don’t know where we would be. He’s a great coach.”

With a 8-1 record in December and undefeated in the Cross County Conference, Pipenger knows he’s not the only one with the butter for the bread at Tri-Village.

“We have a lot of good players on this team and everyone has a job to do,” Pipenger said. “We have good plays and everyone on this team can step up at any time and get the job done. It’s not just me, it’s Tri-Village.”

Averaging in double figures, Pipenger paves the way every time the Patriot fight song is played as the team takes the floor.

“When I put that jersey on, it’s game time for this team,” Pipenger said. “It’s not about me but about the team. This is my favorite sport and nothing I would rather do.

Losing to the Jets in the tournament was tough for Pipenger as he knew before the start of the season, the goal was to be undefeated after 20 games.

“That was a tough loss,” said Pipenger. “We left the floor knowing we had a lot of work ahead of us. We have a tough game with Miami East coming up so we have to be ready.”

Many athletes could be named AOM for County News Online, but only one gets that title.

“This is an honor,” said Pipenger. “There’s a lot of people in this county who are good enough to be called Athlete of the Month. We have a lot of work as a team to maintain the undefeated record in the conference.”

With only one senior (Evan Barger) Pipenger looks forward to the rest of this season and next.

“We have a lot to look forward to here,” Pipenger pointed out. “Most of this team comes back next year and we have a junior varsity team that’s undefeated going back to last year. Things look good here for Tri-Village basketball.”

With that kind of attitude, the Pats may be the team to beat for years to come.
