County teams shine in district prelims

Dayton- Darke County Cross County Conference track teams, Franklin Monroe, Tri-Village, and Arcanum, came out as strong competitors in district prelims on Tuesday evening. They ended up qualifying in many of their events to go to district finals on Saturday at Welcome Stadium.

In the boys 4x200 meter relay, Franklin Monroe finished in seventh with a time of 1:40.17. This relay team consists of Jesse Boston, Trevor Shelley, Lucas King, and Jesse Chaney.

Arcanum finished in front of Franklin Monroe with a time of 1:36.41. This put the Trojans in third for this relay. Dustin Shiverdecker, Casey Shellhaus, Matt Workman, and Cody Stone are the members for this race.

Both of these Darke County teams are going to finals on Saturday.

Qualifying in the boys 100 meter dash was Cody Stone from Arcanum. He finished in fourth with a time of 11.75. There were no other County schools who qualified in this event.

There are three County qualifiers for the boys 800 meter run. In first place is Aaron Balsbaugh from Arcanum with a time of 2:09.03. In fourth is Tri-Village’s Clayton Murphy with 2:15.27. And in 11th is another Patriot, Craig Harrison with the time, 2:15.39.

Murphy will also be competing in the boys 3,200 meter run at district finals on Saturday. He will be trying to make a back-to-back state appearance in this race.

There was no surprise that Jordan Bevins, from Tri-Village, ended up finishing in third in the 110 meter hurdles event. Bevins has been going strong in this event all year. His time on Tuesday was 16.79 and will be competing on Saturday.

Arcanum boys’ 4x100 relay team, consisting of Dustin Shiverdecker, Casey Shellhaus, Matt Workman, and Cody Stone, finished in fourth with a time of 46.69.

In the field events, Matt Workman finished in fourth for boys pole vault with 10-06. Lucas Gower, from Arcanum, finished with a fight and ended in seventh place with pole vault of 9-00. Both have qualified for finals.

Casey Shellhaus finished in eighth in boys shot put. He threw 112 feet and 6 inches, representing the Arcanum Trojans.

Two County schools will be represented in the boys long jump with Bevins and Arcanum’s Dustin Shiverdecker.

Bevins ended in fourth place with a jump of 20:03.5, while Shiverdecker finished in sixth with a leap of 19-06.5.

In the girls 300 meter hurdles, there were 4 girls who competed really well and will be moving on to finals. Finishing in eighth was Mariah Brehm from Arcanum with a time of 55.49. Alisha Hollinger finished in fourth with a time of 52.91, representing Tri-Village. Coming in third was Chasity Fuson from Arcanum with a time of 51.70.

Sitting in first place for the 300 meter hurdles is Lauren Landes from Franklin Monroe. Landes ended with a time of 48.99. Lauren Landes has been going very strong on the hurdles this track season. She is also sitting in first place for the girls 100 meter hurdles. Landes finished in 16.84 seconds in this event. We plan on seeing much from her on Saturday.

Also competing in the 100 meter hurdles on Saturday is Fuson with a time of 17.29 who finished in second. Alisha Hollinger, from Tri-Village, finished in fourth with 17.56 seconds.

The only County school that will be represented in the girls 200 meter dash will be Franklin Monroe. This represented by Cassidy Nealeigh who finished in eighth on Tuesday with a time of 29.23 seconds. Nealeigh is a senior, in her first year of track, and has been very beneficial for this track team.

Coming in third for the girls 100 meter dash was Allyson Manning from Franklin Monroe. Manning finished this dash in 13.59 seconds.

Allison Hildebrand is on her way back to district finals yet again after a strong return from being out all year due to injury. Hilderbrand will be representing Franklin Monroe in the girls 400 meter dash. Her time on Tuesday was 64.69 where she finished seventh.

Arcanum girls will be representing in the 4x800 meter relay. This relay team consists of Kelsey Anderson, Sarah Cetnar, Mariah Brehm, and Fuson. These girls finished in eighth with the time, 11:37.70.

The Franklin Monroe girls relay teams went on a qualifying spree. They were the only Darke County CCC team to qualify in the girls 4x100, 4x200, and 4x400 meter relay race. The Jets ended in sixth in the 4x200 with a time of 1:57.47, this team includes Jennifer Underwood, Cassidy Nealeigh, Tailor Chrisman, and Sydney Hartzell. Third place was awarded to these girls in the 4x400 with the time, 4:33.11. Brittany Glover, Cassidy Nealeigh, Jennifer Underwood, and Lauren Landes are who make up this relay team.

The Lady Jets are sitting in first place in the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 52.68. Allyson Manning, Cassidy Nealeigh, Sydney Hartzell, and Brittany Glover are who have made this 4x100 team quite the competitor throughout the year.

Brittany Glover is also at first place in the girls high jump with the height of 4-10. She is the only one from a Darke County that will be competing in this event on Saturday.

Another field event qualifier is Abby O’Donnell from Arcanum in the girls discus. She threw 102-03.
