ARCANUM- After Arcanum won a hard fought match Monday over Troy Christian on a night when Terri Day said her team was sluggish and ugly in the opening game.

Day watched her team drop a 3-0, 25-16, 25-20, 25-22  Cross County Conference loss on Franklin Monroe Tuesday but when asked what she thought of her teams play, her response was a simple one.

"What a dreat senior night," said Day. "We beat our arch rival in Franklin Monroe. They came in like I wanted them to and did a great job across the board, every one of them. You never know how emotions are going to play into things on a night like this and you worry about that."

After a 21-16 victory, the Trojans looked to be playing much better against the Jets than they played the night before.

Then things got dicey.

The Trojans built what seemed to be a commanding 18-10 lead in the second game but Franklin Monroe was not going to lay down for the Trojans and was able to climb back into it, closing the gap to 23-20 before Arcanum broke serve and gained the final point

Taking the early 4-1 lead, Arcanum looked as if it were going to run away with things in the finale.

Before the Trojans could think about it, the Jets had taken a slim 8-7 lead and later had built a 17-14 advantage.

Having dug a game three hole, the Trojans were able to get back on track, re-gaining the lead at 19-18, then took it for good after breaking a 21-21 tie to win 25-22.

"I told the girls this was their night and I was putting it all in their hands," said Day. "Franklin Monroe gave us all we could handle and things felt a little more comfortable tonight. It was a league match and we needed this."

While Day was light in her comments, the feeling was much heavier for Jets coach Jodi Bauman.

"I think the thing that hurt us the most was the fact that our offense wasn't as strong tonight as it has been," said Bauman. "We didn't start out with strong momentum. Your have this friendly rivalry here and I think that brings on the nerves."

On a losing night, it was Alexis Hartzell that kept the Jets on the move.

"She's the glue of this team," said Bauman. "She keeps everyone together weather we/re up 15 or down 15. She's a good leader and I can count on her to be consistent."

Hartzell had 10 points and 26 kills for Franklin Monroe while freshman Morgam Booher added 11 points and 17 kills.

The win put the Trojans at 15-6 while the Jets fell to 7-13.
