Arcanum withstands push from Troy Christian

By George Starks

ARCANUM- If Arcanum coach Terri Day was looking for a battle, she found it in Troy Christian.

It took everything Arcanum had to overcome a tough Troy Christian team Monday.
After dropping the first game to the Eagles, 25-23, the Trojans won the next three games, 25-18, 25-23 and 25-6 Monday in non-conference action.

"This was very scrappy bunch," said Day. "They had a couple of nice hitters and the one was very hard to gauge on where to block. It frustrated my blockers. They gave us a big test and we have big tests the rest of this week."

In the second and third games, Arcanum had the ability to get the Eagles down by five and six points at time.

They could never put them away but would eventually prevail in the end.

"We were very flat and ugly in the beginning," admitted Day. "We were making a lot of unforced errors and you just can't do that. When you're giving the other team points, you know what's going to happen and you just can't do that."

Game four brought out the best the Trojans had in a 25-6 whipping of Troy Christian.

"I thought in that last game, the girls played up to their potential," said Day. "We had to dig deep and that was very encouraging to see your team come from behind like that."

With sectionals right around the corner, the Trojans will face Anna in that opening round.

The Eagles would prove to be something that Day would appreciate.

"We need to face teams where the kids have to adjust to different things that teams have to offer," said Day. "We have a serious week this week and it started tonight."

On Tuesday, the Trojans brought Franklin Monroe and will travel to Tri-Village tonight and will be at Bradford Thursday.

"This is going to be a tough week," Day admitted. "Usually, we have the Thursday off before sectionals and I hate that because there's too much down time."

With the win, the Trojans improved to 13-6 overall.
