Lady Trojans overcome push from Blazers

ARCANUM- It was once said that anything worth having is worth fighting for. If that's the case, then nothing good comes easy.

Tuesday, the Arcanum Lady Trojans had the fight of the season on their hands with CCC rival, National Trail.

In what turned out to be a true slug fest, Arcanum held off a stubborn bunch of Lady Trail Blazers to get game wins of 25-17, 25-23 and 25-17 to take a much needed conference victory and remain undefeated in the CCC.

It was also a night when a team came together, led by seniors Brooke Allen, Allison Dill and juniors Abby O'Donnell, Brooklyn Baker and Cheyenne Aikman.

"This was not an easy night," said Arcanum coach Terri Day as she was able to breath a sigh of relief. "This team is very flexible. They don't hesitate to change it up a little bit. I thought it was a great match for them."

On a night when nothing came easy for the Trojans who had to scrap for every point, the Blazers made their presence known.

In the opener, the Trojans held leads of 12-4 and 19-10 but was never able to put the Blazers away before the 25-17 victory.

Game two brought out the Beast Trail could give as the Blazers held the lead on four different occasions with the last coming at 21-20 late in the contest.

Arcanum took the lead back 24-23 and got the 25-23 win on serves from Aikman.

In the end, it was the play of Baker at the net and the Libero, Dill, that made the ultimate difference.

"Baker can get up for a little girl," Day said with a laugh. "Allison got two big kills from the back row. She is a great passer too. She gets to a lot of balls that many can't get to and she is much appreciated by those girls on the front row."

Passing and the front row play made the difference after a hard fought battle on Monday with Ft. Recovery."

Monday we could make a pass against Ft. Recovery," Day pointed out. "I think that was in the back of their minds knowing that had to change if they were going to be successful. Ft. Recovery had the height but we have the height as well. In this conference this year, you had better be ready to play every night."

Now 5-3 overall and 2-0 in the conference, the Trojans will travel to Miami East tonight to do battle with the Vikings.
