Local Youth compete in Elks State Soccer Shoot

On July 28, 2012, eight of our local youth competed in a state level competition.  The Ohio Elks hosted its annual Soccer Shoot in Coshocton, OH at the Kids America Sports Complex.  The competitors from our area represented the Ohio Elks Southwest district and competed against the winners of the five other Elks districts in Ohio.  Each competitor was treated to a free night’s stay at a local hotel, a free lunch and a great time at the Shoot.  They each got a ball, a shirt, a bag of goodies and some valuable information and trinkets from our Drug Awareness program.

There were four age groups consisting of boys and girls separated into age groups U-8, U-10, U-12 and U-14.  The older three groups shot at an 8’ tall x 24’ wide goal and it was separated into a 3 x 3 grid.  The youngest group kicked at five goals varying in width from 48” to 17” with points increasing as the size decreased.  As district chairman, I was very proud of how well our competitors represented our area.  Please join me in congratulating our winners!

The results were as follows in the girls:  Mcayla Bush – 3rd (U-8), Hannah Limbert – 5th (U-10), Ahmya Elder – 4th (U-12) and Maddie Shepard – 1st (U-14).  The boys results were: Avery Ernst – 4th (U-8), Jacob Maher – 4th (U-10), Jonathan Chen – 2nd (U-12) and Seth Conway – 6th (U-14).

Maddie Shepard will represent our State at the Regional level where she’ll compete against the state winners from New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, District of Columbia, Kentucky, Michigan and West Virginia.  She’ll travel to Maryland in March of 2013 to represent the state of Ohio along with the other 1st place finishers from the other districts.  Good Luck Maddie, we know you’ll make us proud!
