V-Tigers shoot down Flyers
By Dean Eversole

VERSAILLES- The Versailles Tigers used a suffocating defense Friday-Saturday night to down the Marion Local Flyers 24-14. Versailles allowed just 14 points to a Flyer team that came into the contest with four straight 40 plus outputs. In a game that was postponed Friday night, Versailles took a quick lead off a Flyer fumble just :54 seconds into the game. Then the lighting hit and the game was pushed to Saturday night.

Not much changed as the Versailles defense attacked Marion Local quarterback Adam Bertke on almost every pass attempt, knocking around the All-Ohio QB and leaving the Flyers baffled. In the meantime Versailles quarterback Nick Campbell hit on two touchdown passes one to Jacob Barga of 20 yards and the second to Evan Phlipot from 30 yards.

The Tigers allowed a lone touchdown in the second quarter when Bertke bowled in from 5-yards out. That followed a fluke play when a Flyer receiver was at the right place at the right time. A tipped ball floated into the hands of the waiting WR who took it to the Versailles five yard line.

The half ended with Versailles up 14-7. Not much changed in the second half as the defenses dominated. Versailles managed a 21-yard Chad Winner field goal with 5:29 in the third quarter, making it 17-7 Versailles. Marion made things interesting with a scoring drive making it 17-14 with 6:45 left. That drive has aided by a pass interference call on Versailles on third and 30.

However, on Marion's following drive Jacob Barga snared a would be screen pass from Bertke and took it 21-yards for a pick six. The final nail came when Campbell picked off Bertke, sealing the deal.

Versailles is 3-2 on the season.
