Greenville holds first meet of the season

GREENVILLE - Greenville hosted its first track meet of the season Tuesday as Piqua and Troy supplied the competition.

When the last runner had crossed the line, the Wave boys finished first, winning 75-51 over the Trojans, while the Lady Wave came in second, falling to Troy, 88-52 while Piqua scored 35 points.

It was the second meet of the year for the Wave girls who finished fifth out of 10 teams Saturday in the Lady Tiger Classic in Versailles.

With a fifth and a second overall for the Lady Wave, Greenville coach Bill Plessinger was pleased with the effort of his girls.

“We are pretty strong, but we don’t have much depth,” said Plessinger. “We got one strong girl in about every event and that should bode well in invitationals. Today with Troy and Piqua, we didn’t rack up the points the way Troy did with its depth, but we’re doing well. We have three girls running this year that haven’t been out because they were hurt. Those being Tara Guillozet, Emily Hayes and Rachael Fourman. It’s nice to have those three back. ”

With the girl’s results in, Plessinger pointed out a few good events for the Lady Wave.

“Both our pole vaulters went over ten feet and our distance girls are looking real good,” Plessinger pointed out. “Things are falling into place for the girls, I wish we had a little bit more depth. Jessica Kerg ran the 300 hurdles and never ran that before. She had a pretty good time.”

With the Wave coach being pleased with the ladies team, it was his first chance to see the guys perform.

“I am very pleased with Aaron Balsbaugh who recently transferred in from Arcanum,” said Plessinger. “He won two events tonight and he ran the 3200 (2 mile) and never ran it before in his life. So he’s doing extremely well. He should be running the 800 or the 1600 but right now, we are trying to find kids to fill spots by experimenting. That’s what we run these dual meets for. We can experiment and see what we’ve got for the future.”

Greenville will travel to Tipp City tonight and the boys will compete in the Tiger Classic Saturday in Versailles.
