GREENVILLE- The final day of harness racing at the Great Darke County Fair brought much to the table.

It would prove to be a record-breaking day for the trotters and pacers.

In the opening session of the day, Brandon Bates took Moveman to the circle in the mile trot in 1:59, cutting a full second off the old record set in 2002.

In the nightcap, it was Dave Palone driving Take It Back Terry to the win in a blistering time of 1:53.3.

On top of that, the 20,000 dollar purse was the largest purse ever at the fair, setting yet another record as it was a history making day.

Palone owns more win in harness horse racing than any other driver in the history of the sport.

The horse, a four-year-old gelding, has a lifetime winnings of over 250,000 dollars.

In addition, Palone was also the driver behind Arts Place, a horse trained by Riegle.

“This is just a great day,” said Palone after the race. “Gene Riegle gave me the opportunity to drive one of his horses and I won with Arts Place. That was a great horse. This is just amazing and the people of this fair are so nice.”

While speaking, Palone was nearly in tears after the historic win.

In the fifth race of the night, Mandy Jones rolled into the Winner’s Circle after winning the Helen Ross Memorial, driving Truly My Way to the win in2:00.1.
