Versailles Bowling
Versailles Boys Bowlers Ruins Coldwater’s Undefeated Season
Versailles Girls remain undefeated

The Coldwater Cavaliers Boys Bowling team, last year’s State Champions, was looking to keep their 2012-13 Season record unblemished along with locking up the WOHSBC title. The Tigers had different plans. Not only did they want to knock off the only undefeated team in the conference, they needed to win to keep their hopes alive for next season’s Ohio High School Kickoff Bowling Championships in Columbus.

When Versailles matches up against Coldwater in High School Bowling, the fans can expect a close and an exciting match to watch. This year was no different.  “Rick Hartings (Coldwater’s coach) and I have been friends for a long time and coaching against Rick makes this match even a little more intense.” The first game started off very close and ended up with Versailles rolling 984 to Coldwater’s 957. The second game the Cavaliers went on a terror and won the second game 1,094 t0 1,019.

With 5 Baker Games to go, the Tigers found themselves down a total of 48 pins. The first Baker Game went to Versailles 182-181. Coldwater continued to keep the heat on the Tigers by winning the second Baker game 220-212. “After the 2nd game and our brief huddle, the looks on the boys’ faces told me they were not ready to throw in the towel. “  The momentum shifted to the Tigers after a huge 233-157 Game 3 baker game. The Tigers kept it rolling in the 4th Baker Game winning 200-182. With 1 game to go, Versailles built a 39 pin lead. “This is what Coldwater thrives on and this is why they won the State Championship last year and are undefeated this year. I expect them to roll a good game this last game. Stay as relaxed as you can and fill frames. Let’s put this thing away!”  The game was extremely close all game with a couple of open frames from the Cavaliers and the Tigers. Going into the tenth frame, if the Coldwater anchor Mitch Kanney rolls 3 strikes, it would force the Tigers anchor, Michael Davidson to at least get a spare to win the match. Kanney went spare strike and Davidson rolled 3 strikes in the tenth to seal the victory for Versailles.

Versailles was led by Michael Davidson with a 245-244, Ben Ahrens 212-200, Nathan Peters 208 and Dustin Ruhe 197. Versailles will face New Bremen this Saturday in Lima. Complete league standings and statistics can be seen at www.WOHSBC.com.

Versailles Girls Bowling Remain Undefeated

With 2 weeks to go in the season, the Lady Tigers were 11-0 and were set to face the Lady Wildcats of Minster. “I stressed all week to the girls to not overlook this week before the final match with Coldwater. Minster’s team can sneak up us if we are not focused on the task at hand,” stated Coach Phlipot.

Versailles won the 1st game 851-719. The second game was a little closer with Versailles winning 737-705. The Tigers kept it rolling in the Baker games as well. The games were 200-162, 180-165, 156-160, 169-142 and 148-188. Versailles ended up winning the match 2,441 to 2,241. Leading scorers for the Tigers were: Megan Monnin 204 and Freshman Hannah Niekamp 182-175. The WOHCBC title will be decided next week at 20th Century Lanes in Lima when the undefeated Versailles Tigers  go up against the undefeated Coldwater Cavaliers.
