CINCINNATI- With Cincinnati's favorite holiday - Reds Opening Day - less than two weeks away, fans can't wait for the 2013 season to get underway, especially with a big Opening Week on tap at Great American Ball Park. Find out more about the Reds' first homestand, how Reds players are getting involved with "March Madness" and more in this edition of the Redlegs Insider.

Reds Opening Day is always a festive occasion, and this year promises to be no different. However, in 2013, there's plenty of action on tap during the Reds' Opening Week beyond just the April 1st home opener.

Sitting atop that list is Opening Night, which has grown to be one of the biggest days of the year for fans. Again this season fans will be treated to appearances by Reds players on the red carpet in the Fan Zone, along with live music from The Rusty Griswolds. And, to cap off the night, it's one of the team's signature fireworks shows. You'll be hard pressed to find a better night of entertainment anywhere in the Queen City.

The action continues for the first weekend of the season, which kicks off with the first Fireworks Friday of the season on April 5. With fireworks after EVERY Friday home game this season, fans will get to enjoy more of these creative shows than ever before. The Saturday game is a 1:10 p.m. start, and following the Reds-Nationals game that day will be the inaugural Reds Collegiate Invitational featuring the University of Cincinnati taking on the University of Louisville. Fans with tickets to the Reds game can stay and catch the Bearcats and Cardinals at no extra charge as the two rival schools play the first ever college game at Great American Ball Park.

Perhaps lost in all the hoopla of the team's opening stretch is the fact that the Reds will host both the American League and National League Rookie of the Year Award winners in the season's first two series. Mike Trout of the Angels and Bryce Harper of the Nationals have already become two of the brightest young stars in the game, and seeing them battle Reds stars like Joey Votto, Brandon Phillips and Jay Bruce should add plenty of drama to the week. Factor in that the Angels could be a potential World Series opponent down the line and that the Nationals just beat out the Reds for the NL's best record in 2012 and you have a pair of intriguing matchups on the field right off the bat.
