Two days of pulling ends in a bang
By George Starks

GREENVILLE- Two days of truck and tractor pulling came to an end Wednesday night with a bang.

Five classes of trucks and tractors finished off the two days of pulling as the Unlimited Modifides made their very first appearance at the Great Darke County fair and fans were treated to a little bit of everything.

Dave Archer, driving Pioneer, pulled the big sled 174.710 feet before the engine popped and flames flew.

Ansonia's Randy Barga finished the night with a pull of 268.195 but was disqualified for going out of bounds.

Barga put a scare into some fans as his tractor, The Judge: Next Generation, started to drift right, heading for the concrete barricades.

Barga brought the tractor to a halt before getting to close to the barricades.

Locally, many drivers were in action at the track including the Palmer brothers of Greenville, with the Red Avenger.

Mike Palmer finished fifth in the Light Pro Stock class with a pull of 317.345 feet.

Wes Spencer of Greenville had a pull of 311.990 feet, good enough for a ninth place finish wit Bushwacker in the Light Pro Stock..

John Thornhill of Greenville finished 20th while Rossburg's Bob Campbell fell into the 24th position.

Chris Shoemaker of Union City posted a fifth place finish in the 8,000 pound Open Super Stock Tractors with a pull of 301.675 feet driving Cash in the Trash.

History was made Friday night when Gert Dingerink became the first foreign driver to ever win an event in Greenville. Dingerink hails from Zwolle, Netherlands and won the 2,050 lb. Open Mini Modified class with a mark of 325.840 feet.

The following is a list of all pullers in the day session on Friday with the Darke County Tractor Pullers Association pull.
