TROY- Seniors Trey Mong and Travis Feitshans poured in 26 and 23 points (13 boards for Feitshans) respectively while junior Zach Hyre netted 10 In support Monday as Franklin Monroe flew past Jefferson Monday, 67-50, to advance in the state sectional tournament. The run and gun city type of play didn’t seem t bother the Jets as FM held the lead at all the break, 17-10, 30-24 and 45-35. “The glory goes to God,” said Jets coach Troy Myers. “We put a lot of faith in this team and we talked before the game and we told them that you can put your faith in what the world says you can do or you can put your faith in the truth and what you’re committed to. Our guys have put their faith in the program and that’s what they’re committed to.”

Right from the very beginning, the Jets were flying high, jumping out to the early 9-5 lead before Broncos coach Will Mitchell called time.

With 4:45 left in the half, the Jets held a 22-12 advantage and one thing was made obvious.

Jefferson had no answer for Mong in the post.

“We knew that from the beginning,” said Myers. “He just walks out on the floor and goes to work. The thing about Trey was he was not only scoring but he was scrapping and was all over the boards. He was playing up breaking the press when we needed him. When you can see him being multi-dimensional and helping us in so many ways, he’s really tough to key on but he’s playing phenomenal right now. There’s not a more avid professor of our program than Trey and I just love it because he deserves it. His mental preparation in unbelievable.”

Holding a six point lead at the break, it was Hyre that came in off the bench, draining two huge triples and scoring eight in the half.

The Jets junior may have been the unsung hero for FM in the first half.

“He was the difference in the first half,” Myers admitted. “That’s the thing about Zach, once he gets his feet set and the balls in the air, I feel pretty good about it. That was the shots they were giving us and honestly, he was open. We took what we were given and Zach was opportunistic of it and put us in a good position.”

In an effort to make the Jet offense sputter, the Broncos went to a 2-2-1 full court press.

“It rattled us a little bit,” said Myers. “They changed it from a half-court game to three quarters court to a full court game. We had a turnover or two but once we settled down, we split it where we wanted to split it and put the ball in the hands of the guys that needed to have it.”

In a game where it’s said that when a team makes more free throws than the opposition takes, victory is usually going to be the outcome.

By the time Jefferson had got to the line to shoot foul shots, the Jets had connected on nine of 11 from the line with 2:16 remaining in the third.

For the game, Franklin Monroe hit on 19 of 29 from the charity stripe.

With the win, FM will tangle with the Catholic Central Irish tonight at Troy.
