TIPP CITY- It didn’t take the Versailles Lady Tigers long to show why they are the top seed in the Tipp City sectional.

The Tigers used a 21-0 first quarter run Tuesday to blast past the hapless Lady Arrows Tuesday in a 84-34 rout of Preble Shawnee.

“This was a good win for the girls,” said Versailles coach Jacki Stonebraker. “We came out a little slow but picked it up in the middle of the quarter.”

The Arrows came out and took it to the top seeded Tigers, jumping on Versailles early, 3-0, then 4-2.

At that point, Stonebraker decided to flex the Tigers muscles, employing a full court trap.

“It all starts with our top, Lauren Bruns. No one does it better,” said Stonebraker. “With her long arms, she is six feet from fingertip to fingertip. We scored big points off the press and that’s what we were looking for. I told the girls that when we press, our offense looks really good. Our half court defense really lacks sometimes because we don’t transition right into it.”

From the midway point of the frame to the end, Versailles forced 10 Arrows turnovers, scoring 10 points and going up by as much as a 23-4 count before closing out the frame, 23-8.

In that 21-0 run, it was Emily Harmon that led the charge on defense, scoring half of her six points in the game.

“She was huge out there for us,” commented Stonebraker. “She is a quiet monster out there. You never know what’s going to happen when Emily is behind you. She can pull down boards and she’s great defensively.”

In addition, Rachel Kremer dropped in 18 points to lead all in scoring, including four treys.

“It took her a little bit to find that first three,” said Stonebraker. “Hopefully, they start hitting the rims a little bit better and falling for us.”

Once the Tigers took the lead in the opening quarter, the game was never in doubt as Versailles went about things in its usual manner.

Versailles held 43-15 edge at the break and a commanding 58-28 lead going into the final eight minutes.

With the win the Tigers will take on Arcanum for the right to go to the district tonight, following the sectional title game between Miami East and Anna.
