Lady Wave to return to Wendy’s Classic

GREENVILLE- The Greenville Lady Wave softball team is gearing up for another post season run in 2014.

Last year, Greenville made it to the Elite Eight before being knocked out of the OHSAA tournament. That strong run earned the Wave a spot in this year’s Wendy’s Classic to be contested April 11-12.

Based on last year’s post season results, three of the four defending state champions will be there to compete. Those champions are North Canton Hoover (D-I), Bloom Carroll (D-III) and Strasburg Franklin (D-IV).

Three of the state runners-up will be there as well as Elyria, Kenton Ridge and Columbia Station Columbia. Other strong programs will help fill out part of the remaining field.

Along with Greenville, many final four teams will be there as well as one other Elite Eight team, Lebanon.

Twenty-four teams will make up the total field with Greenville playing in the Black Pool. Other teams in that pool are Ashland, Bloom Carroll, Canfield, Loudonville, Mt. St Dominic (NJ), Massilon Perry and Youngstown Ursuline.

This year’s teams will bring a combined record of 509-166 with North Canton Hoover having gone the season undefeated at 34-0.

Greenville will open against Mt. St. Dominic at 4:30.
