Versailles Girls Bowling Remain Undefeated

The annual Versailles High School Bowling program fundraiser is slated for January 26th at the Eagles in Versailles. This is hosted by the Ladies Auxiliary from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm. Come on out and let the Tiger Bowlers serve you breakfast.

During the Christmas Break, the Versailles Varsity Girls Bowling Team bowled 3 matches. The first match was against the Minster Wildcats. The girls struggled a little bit the first game rolling an 827 to Minster’s 744. The second game, the team caught fire with the big help of Paige Holsapple. The team won that game 968-682. Paige Holsapple set two new school records. She rolled a 279 her second game to break the single game record and she also had a 488 series, breaking the 2 game school record. The team continued to bowl well in the Baker games with a 138, 182, 160, 229 and 200. The final score was Versailles 2704 to Minster’s 2207. “Paige had been struggling a little bit this year. Coach Davidson saw a flaw in her push away during the Kickoff Tourney in Columbus a couple of weeks ago which made her timing extremely late at the release point. Paige worked diligently on getting this fixed. It looks like it worked!” stated Coach Phlipot.

The next match was not going to be easy. This would be the Lady Tigers first real test of the season up against a really good team, the St. Marys Roughriders. This was also being held at Varsity Lanes in St. Marys. It is always an advantage when you are bowling at your home lanes. Versailles took an early lead, 987-877. Paige Holsapple remained hot by rolling a 226 followed by Megan Ward 220 and Brooke Wehrkamp 212. St. Marys was not ready to fold as they came back and won the second game 857-937. This gave the Lady Tigers a 30 pin lead going into the Baker games. It went back and forth throughout the Baker Games, but Versailles prevailed to win the match. The Baker scores were 213-188, 187-193, 226-179, 179-194 and 165-143. Other leading scores were Megan Monnin with a 204. “Going into this match, we all knew it was going to be a tough match. Thank goodness our girls came to bowl as St. Marys rolled their best series of the year against us,” Said Coach Phlipot.

The last match the Tigers went up against Lima Central Catholic at Speedway Lanes in New Bremen. The girls won this match rather easily with a score of 2407 to 1476. Leading scorers were Brooke Wehrkamp 202, Paige Holsapple 189 and Megan Ward 173. “Overall, the girls struggled quite a bit today, however, I will take the blame for the 1st game. I had them playing a little too deep on the lanes. Once they moved further outside, their ball reactions were much better,” said Phlipot. The girls remain tied with Coldwater for first place at 8-0.

Through 8 weeks of the season, the top 10 averages for the girls are as follows: Paige Hartings- Coldwater 197, Erika Hartings- Coldwater 190, Megan Monnin- Versailles 187, Lauren Sanning- Coldwater 186, Paige Holsapple- Versailles 186, Tori Minnich- Versailles 183, Megan Ward- Versailles 183, Brooke Wehrkamp- Versailles 182, Kristen Dammeyer- St. Marys 182 and Gwen Seitz- Coldwater 176.
