Jr high Lady Wave continue winning tradition

GREENVILLE – Greenville junior high girls will be heading into tournament play as No. 1 and No. 2 seeds, according to Jerrod Newland, Greenville High School Softball coach. Eighth grade is Greenville White; seventh grade is Greenville Green.

“The future looks great,” he said, referring to the players he will be getting in a year or two. “These are good kids working hard and having fun!”

Tournament play for GWOC middle schools begins Friday and goes through Monday. “I expect both of these teams to be in the final four,” Newland added.

White and Green had a combined 25-0 record heading into the Greenville Softball Opening Day double header May 2 at Lady Wave Stebbins Field. Seventh grade captured both games to finish the weekend 15-0 and earn First Seed; while White headed into Monday’s match at Vandalia with a 12-2 record and Second Seed.

Seventh grade coach, Misti Werner, said some problems needed to be worked out, but they worked hard and listened to their coaches. “They have all improved… tremendously,” she added...
