Versailles Bowling finishes winning seasons

Varsity Boy’s Bowling Finishes Strong

On January 30th the Varsity Boys Bowling team traveled to Coldwater, OH to bowl against the Minster Wildcats in a tough match.  They came back to Versailles with a win scoring 2646 to 2431. Leading the way for the Tigers were Alex Groff (218,190) Kyle Cotner (181), Jacob Wening (200, 178) and Luke Shellhaas (172).  Junior, Alex Groff impressed with no open frames in all of his games. “It was great to see the boys bowl well in Baker games this week. They gained a win against a very good team at the end of the season and this helps boost confidence,” said Coach Phlipot.

The next week the Tigers went to Lima, OH where they bowled against the St Marys Rough Riders. They were unable to bring home a win falling to St Marys with a score of 2559 to 2858. High scores for the Tigers were Alex Groff (227, 219), Luke Shellhaas (201, 166), Ayden Moran (183), and Brody Hyre (181, 160). “The boys bowled well in the first set but did not quite have enough pins to win the match. A few of our bowlers had conflicts and were not able to join us for the final match. I am looking forward to seeing how the boys pull together in post season play,” said Coach Phlipot.

Sectional tournament will take place on February 10th at Poelking Lanes in Huber Heights, OH.  Go to www.SWDAB.com to follow the Tigers stats.

Lady Tiger Bowlers end season at 9-5

The Lady Tigers bowled in two good matches to end their season play.  On January 30th they traveled to Coldwater to bowl against Ft. Recovery.  Versailles brought home a win 2247-1749.  “The oil pattern made the lanes difficult for the girls in game one of the day. Fortunately, the girls were able to make adjustments and improve their score significantly in the 2nd game,” said Coach Phlipot.. Overall the girls also bowled good scores for baker games. Individual leaders for the Tigers were Hannah Niekamp (172) and Morgan Barlage (178, 154). “Although it can be frustrating, it is good for the girls to see hard oil patterns toward the end of the season.  I was happy to see the girls make necessary adjustments as this shows growth in a bowler,” said Coach Phlipot.

The following week the Tigers traveled to Lima, OH for their final season match. The ladies bowled versus the St. Marys Rough Riders and unfortunately came back with the loss 2322 to 2219. “We were not able to pick up necessary spares and this really cost us at the match, we had 19 single pin misses the first game” said Coach Phlipot. High games came from Olivia Berning (195, 168), Brooke Condon (171), Brigette Holsapple (168), and Hannah Niekamp (150).  “It always feels best to have a win to finish the season but with the loss comes a lesson in mental focus heading into tournament play.”

On Thursday February 11th the girls will travel to Poelking Lanes in Huber Heights for Sectional Tournament. Go to www.SWDAB.org for stats and to follow the Tigers.
