Versailles Bowlers, Week 8

Lady Tiger Bowlers Defeat Ansonia

January 9th, 2016- The Lady Tiger Bowlers defeated the Ansonia Tigers at Community Lanes in Minster with a score of 2394 to 1823.  Leading the way for the Versailles Tigers with high individual scores were Hannah Niekamp (266, 201), Olivia Bruening (180), Morgan Heitkamp (167), Makenzie Berning (162), and Jamie Brown (157). “The girls are improving each week on their individual games. We have room to improve as a team with our baker games.  We’ll continue to work on jiving as a team during baker games and picking up spare shots.  If we continue to improve I am confident we can take a trip to Columbus,” said Coach Phlipot. The ladies have a very big match on Saturday against Coldwater. Both teams are undefeated in conference play at this time so this match will likely determine who will hold the title as South Division Champions.  The match will be held at Speedway Lanes in New Bremen, OH starting at 9:45 a.m.

Tough Loss for Varsity Boys Bowling

On January 9th the Tiger Men’s Bowling team traveled to Community Lanes in Minster, OH to bowl against the St Henry Redskins and unfortunately came back home with a loss.  “The boys fought back and forth with St. Henry and unfortunately just could not come out ahead,” said coach Phlipot. They only fell by 68 pins with a total score of 2579 to St. Henry’s 2647. The winner was not determined until the final baker game as the Tigers only had a 7 pin deficit at that time. “We had 3 open frames in a row in the last baker game and this made it impossible to come back and win. The saying in bowling is, “Spare games win championships” and this rang true on Saturday,” said Coach Phlipot.  Leading the way for the Tigers were Alex Groff (275), Jacob Wening (204), and Luke Shellhaus (202).  “I was also pleased to see Aydan Moran step in for us today and bowl well. He had just one open frame during all of the baker games,” said Coach Phlipot. “Our confidence is growing as we head into the final weeks of the season.”

The bowlers will travel to Speedway Lanes in New Bremen on Saturday to bowl against Mississinawa Valley. To follow stats, schedules, and standings visit www.WOHSBC.com
