NEW MADISON- The last time Tri-Village went to state in the cheerleading competition, Darlene Ary was the cheer advisor.

That was four years ago and now, the cheer advisor Danielle (Ary) Bourne. The daughter of Darlene Ary.

Despite the four year time lapse in apperaences at Columbus, the excitement of returning is as high now as it was in 2012.

Taking her first team to state is big for Bourne.

"I'm excited," said Bourne. "It's been a struggle to get into the gym with the basketball teams having practice so we've been in the gym at 6 a.m. When practice is over, they go to class and we do tumbling after school. These girls want this."

While the rest of the little kids at Tri-Village are preparing for their day of classes, it was the cheerleaders that wanted to do the early morning practice sessions.

"This was the girls idea to come in at this early hour," Bourne stated. "We go every morning from 6-7 and we do tumbling for two hours after school everyday this week. These girls are hungry and they want this very much. These girls want to prove to everyone that all the work they put in this past summer has paid off."

Winning in cheer competitions is nothing new to the Lady Patriot cheer team.

"We start our competition year at the Darke County Fair," said Bourne. "It's always our goal to win the fair competition and this last year, we did. We want people to know it was not a fluke."

At the D-IV level, the Patriots will be going head to head with the best.

"We know teams like Ft. Loramie will be there so the girls know what they are up against," admitted Bourne. "The fair is our first competition of the season. Winning that is a big boost for our girls. After the fair, we go back asnd look ast what the other teams did and see if we can up the anti. We do everything to make our routine better because we know they are going to be gunning for us."

While the cheer competition is on Sunday, the dance competition is Saturday and Mississinawa Valley will be represented in that competition.

In addition, Covington from the Cross County Conference will be there.

"I think this speaks highly for our area," stated Bourne.
