Arcanum fall in season finale
By George Starks

ARCANUM- In the final game of the season, Arcanum was once again looking for a positive sign and a much needed victory on senior night.

It was a great thought but not one that filled the reality glass.

Down 30-28 after a 37 yard field goal by Bethel’s Tyler Terry with 1:36 left in the game, Arcanum had one last gasp.

Driving to the 11 yard line with 15 seconds left in the game, The Trojans would call on Evan Atchley for a game winning field goal of 28 yards.

A makeable kick for Atchley but it wasn’t meant to be.

The kick was blocked as Arcanum fell to 4-6 on the season with a 30-28 loss to the Bees.

“Five out of our six losses this year were by seven points or less,” Arcanum coach TJ Powers stated. “This one though was a tough one, our kids played so hard and I love them to death and this senior group was such a good one and to not be able to send them out with a win is real hard. We got nothing to be ashamed of, we played our hearts out and had a chance in the end.”

After the Trojans stopped the Bees on a fourth and one at midfield, it was Arcanum that drew first blood.

Brandon Kinney broke loose for a 53 yard run and the Trojans went up 7-0 with 24 seconds remaining in the opening frame.

On its next possession, Bethel would get even after Noah Burrows would go in from a yard out.

Arcanum would go up 14-7 on a one yard run by Daniel Coates.

The score was set up by a great return from Kinney to the 50.

From that point, it would be nip and tug as the Trojans would hold a 14-13 edge at the break.

Fter a scoreless third quarter, the Trojans would break through at the 11:54mark of the fourth a run by quarterback Pierce Lindemuth.

A bad snap prevented the extra point but the Trojans were up by a 20-13 count.

With 5:28 left in the game, Nate Rimkus would catch an eight yard pass for the score and a 20-20 game.

But an interception by Terry would seemingly seal the fate of the Trojans as Bethel would 27-20 late in the game.

With a never say die attitude, the Trojans would score on a 47 yard pass from Lindemuth to Coates.

At that point, the Trojans went for two and with 2:52 remaining, the Trojans held a slim 28-27 lead before the Bees hit the fatal field goal

“I knew we were going for two when we scored, I already told everyone we were going to give the ball to our senior Kinney, we could have told them (Bethel) that too,” Powers commented.  “He is such a tough kid and he willed us to that conversion. I love the seniors to death a great group of guys and I’ll never forget them and like I told them the best and brightest things they will accomplish in their lives is yet to come and this is just one part of it in learning how to handle adversity and persevering.”
