Musings of a Teen Scribe
Spaying Peaches
By Tiffany Beumer

As I have stated in the past, in July 2012 I took in a beautiful kitten that I named Peaches. She is one of those rare kittens that is not extremely hyper, and is very relaxed and quiet. Peaches only “speaks” when she wants her food bowl filled, as soon as food hits the bowl she is calm as could be.

A couple of months ago it all changed, her hormones had taken over. She is the only cat in the household, which made me think her coming in heat would be no big deal; boy was I wrong! I chose not to have her fixed as a kitten, but have recently changed my mind.

Peaches was roaming the house purring uncontrollably. It had gotten so bad that I had to put her in a cage overnight just so my family and I could sleep. Next thing I did, I picked up the telephone book and called to check prices to spay Peaches.

After about nine calls and checking out the vet I had chosen we set a date. I took her April 1st to stay at the vet and get spayed as well as have her front claws removed. I have been informed it is a simple procedure. She will come home Wednesday April 3rd; although she will be drowsy she will be on the right track back to her normal self.

After my experience, I can’t stress enough to get all kittens fixed no matter what their living circumstances are.
