Musings of a Teen Scribe
I dare you…
By Tiffany Beumer

In a “short” period of time electronical gadgets have taken over many aspects in the lives of many people of all ages.

Just the other day I saw what looked to be a ten year old child playing on his own iPhone. This child was with his family who all had iPhones that they were focused on. When I was ten I was outside exploring, or playing with actual toys. I am guilty though, I do own an iPhone but I have recently realized I was becoming too “addicted” to it.

These days there are apps for many things.  Personally I was hooked on a couple of apps specifically. There was one that was similar to Wheel of Fortune, you spin the wheel and pick a letter hoping to solve a phrase in specific categories, while gaining the maximum amount of points that you could. The more you play, the more you want to keep playing. It got to the point I was playing over fifty people that I didn’t even know.

Then there was SongPop a game in which a short amount of a song is played and you have to guess which it is as quick as possible. Some would argue that these games are helpful to enhance memory and such. This may be true, but they also waste time that could be spent on more productive activities.

There are many social media sites and other apps that many people have become very invested in. I know I am going on about what most of you may already know, but I can only hope that everyone will go through their daily activities and realize what is more important than some other activities.

For those of you that do have an iPhone or an iPod I dare you to delete at least five apps, whether you actually use them or not they are not important. Those of you who think that is easy, I dare you to not use a cell phone or computer for two hours.

Enjoy the weather and remember to focus on what is actually important in life.
