Darke County Sheriff
Fatal accident
at Stahl Road & US 36
On December 16, 2016 at approximately 6:31 AM, Darke County Deputies
along with Gettysburg Fire and Rescue, responded to the intersection of
US Route 36 and Stahl Road for a serious one vehicle accident into a
utility pole.
Investigation revealed Joyce Hinkle 64, of Gettysburg, Ohio was driving
a red 1997 Ford Escort Westbound on US Route 36 and traveled off the
right side of the roadway and collided with a utility pole at the
intersection of Stahl Road. Hinkle was pronounced dead at the
scene. Hinkle was wearing a seat belt. A
medical issue may have been a contributing factor in this crash.
The Darke County Coroners Office and the Darke County Sheriff's Office
Accident Reconstruction Team was called to the scene for further
investigation. This accident remains under investigation by the
Darke County Sheriff's Office.
