Mercer County Sheriff
Safecracking suspect arrested

Sheriff Jeff Grey reports the arrest of a 34 year old from Geneva, Indiana.  On January 3, 2016 at 5:48 AM, Lt. Bill Westgerdes observed a male at the Fort Recovery Car Wash located at 104 South Elm Street in Fort Recovery.  Due to the suspicious activity, the deputy circled around the block and the male and vehicle was observed leaving.  Lt. Westgerdes initiated a traffic stop on SR 49 near Oak Street.

The male was subsequently arrested and is currently being held at the Mercer County Adult Detention Facility.  A 2004 Chrysler Concorde was towed from the scene and Mercer County Detectives will apply for a search warrant.  A coin machine unrelated to Fort Recovery was observed in the back seat of the vehicle.

Arrested was 34 year old Brian Harper from 420 High Street in Geneva, Indiana.  Harper is currently being held on two Misdemeanors (Tampering with Coin Machines, Possession of Criminal Tools), and Safecracking a felony of the 4th degree. The case will be reviewed by the Prosecutor and additional charges are expected.

Sheriff Grey states “This is just good police work, a deputy on routine patrol being alert”.
