Council on Rural Services
New Early Childhood
Director announced
Council on Rural Services (CORS) welcomed Karin Somers as Early
Childhood Director (ECD) this month. Ms. Somers will direct the Early
Head Start and Head Start services provided to more than 1300 children
in 22 locations throughout Miami, Auglaize, Champaign, Preble, Darke,
Van Wert, Shelby, Greene, and Logan counties.
Ms. Somers previously held the same position for Community & Family
Services in Portland, Indiana. Prior to that, she served in family
& disability services positions, an important facet of Head Start,
which is committed to kindergarten readiness for children and
supporting their families with the educational, social, and mental
health resources needed to reach economic independence. She and her
husband, Ron, love to camp, hunt, do craft projects, minor home
remodeling, and spend time with their family. Ms. Somers is eager to
meet the community leaders interacting with rural Ohio Head Start and
