Darke County Sheriff
Two vehicle accident at U.S. 127 and U.S. 36

On September 7, 2018 at approximately 3:06 pm, Darke County Deputies, along with New Madison Fire Dept., Tri Village Rescue, Greenville Fire Dept., and Greenville Twp. Rescue were dispatched to the intersection of US Route 127 and US Route 36 west in reference to a two vehicle accident with two people trapped inside.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a yellow 2009 Chevy Aved, driven by Fredrick W. Clark, 82, of New Paris, was stopped eastbound on US Route 36 at US Route 127.  Mr. Clark failed to yield after the stop sign, traveling into the path of the southbound Chevy Blazer, driven by Brent M. Stastny, 36, of Arcanum.  US Route 127 and US Route 36 were closed for approximately one hour.

Mr. Clark had to be extricated from his vehicle by mechanical means.  Mr. Clark's front seat passenger, Shirley J. Clark, 79, of New Paris was removed from the vehicle by non-mechanical means.  Mr. and Mrs. Clark were transported to Wayne Hospital and were later transported to Miami Valley Hospital by their Mobile Intensive Care Unit (MICU).  Mr. Stastny refused treatment at the scene.

This accident remains under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff's Office.
