Phyllis Jeanne Shelley Wetzel

Phyllis Jeanne Shelley Wetzel, age 81, of Arcanum, Ohio passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family at 1:30 P.M. on Friday, November 20, 2015. Phyllis was born April 3, 1934 in Darke County to the late Clarence & Zelma (Miller) Shelley.

Phyllis is survived by her husband of 62 years, Duane Wetzel; sons & daughters-in-law, Alan & Linda Wetzel of Arcanum and Galen & Marilyn Wetzel of Arcanum; grandchildren, Lori & Justin Palmer, Christi Wetzel, Zane & Courtney Wetzel, Kelly & Dan Fourman, Mara Wetzel and Vance Wetzel, great-grandchildren, Titus, Elsie, Ava and Jonah; sister, Louise Mack of Carmel, Indiana; and brother, Eldean Shelley of Fairfield Glade, Tennessee.

In addition to her parents, Phyllis was also preceded in death by a sister, Glenna Harshbarger; and brother, Byron Shelley.

Phyllis attended Arcanum High School and Comptometer Business School. She worked at Delco and once married became a homemaker on the farm. Phyllis loved God and her husband with all her heart. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren were very special to her. She loved cooking, quilting and gardening. She was a member of Castine Church of the Brethren where she served as a Sunday school teacher of all ages, Chair of Women’s Fellowship, Deacon and prayer circle. She was a past board member and Women’s Committee member of the Darke County Farm Bureau.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at Pitsburg Church of the Brethren 8376 Pitsburg Laura Road Arcanum with Pastor Ken Oren officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Ft. Jefferson. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville and Wednesday morning from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to State of the Heart Hospice.
