Helen J. Romie Council (Berger)

Helen Romie Council (Berger) age 89 of Greenville, formerly of Versailles passed away on Sunday April 15 after a short illness. Helen was born and raised in Fort Loramie, to Martin and Clara Belle (Barga) Romie, now deceased. Helen is preceded in death by her husbands, Raymond Berger and Charles Council.

Helen was Mom to eight children: Michael (Donna) Berger, Bonnie (Fred) Aslinger, Janet Berger, Mary Delk, Ray “Pug” (Jan) Berger, Julie (Shawn Magee) Berger, Bob Berger and Mark (Darla) Berger. Helen was Grandma to grandchildren: Dan (Christine) Berger, Sarah (Nate) Moeller,  Erin (Mike) Guendelsberger, Paul Berger, Jason (Karin) Aslinger, Denis (Julie) Aslinger, Brad (Nikki) Delk, Jaime (Jason) Lavinder, Kelly (Jim) Stephens, Mindy Berger, Heather (Paul) Luebke, Casey (Kelly) Berger, Kim (Seth) Monnin, Allyson Berger, Ivy (Rueben) King and 28 great-grandchildren.  Also a special step-son, Bob (Teresa) Council and their son, Kevin (Lydia) Council and their two children; sister in law, Marlene Romie; and a host of nieces and nephews from the Romie and Berger families. Helen also loved her friends Rose and Denny Saintignon and Bob and Maxine Fitzgerald.

Helen was a soft ball player as a young adult then a busy mom who liked playing accordion and cards. Later in life Helen enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren and garage sales. Mom loved giving away her apple butter (especially to Dr. Bowlin) and zucchini bread (also to her great-grandchild Zooey).  Mom was always heard saying “I have eight of the best kids in the world” much to the chagrin of her “kids”. We owe our sister, Janet, so much for living with and caring for Mom. Our sincere thanks, Janet.

Helen was a member of St. Mary’s in Greenville.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, April 19, 2018, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church 233 West 3rd St. Greenville with Rev.
