Kay E. Riffle

Kay E. Riffle, age 80, of Ansonia, Ohio, passed away on August 28, 2018 at 5:27 A.M. at Wayne Hospital in Greenville, Ohio under the wonderful care of State of the Heart (hospice) after suffering from Alzheimer’s disease for many years.  She was born on November 19, 1937 in Greenville, Ohio, to the late Dora P. (Crumrine) Peters and Wesley Wilson.

Kay married James (Jim) Riffle on January 20, 1955 who preceded her in death on February 16, 2014.  Kay is survived by children Dean (Pam) Riffle of Dayton, Ohio; Daryl (Mary) Riffle of Ansonia, Ohio; and Denise (Jeffrey) Gayer of Sylvania, Ohio; grandchildren Shawn (Melissa) Riffle, Shannon Riffle, Nathan (Laurel) Riffle, Chase Riffle, Adam (Jessica) Riffle, Andrew (Kalie) Riffle, Abby Gayer and Luke Gayer, and 13 beautiful great grandchildren.  She truly loved spending time with her family.

Kay was a servant leader in family, church and community.  She served on the H.O.P.E. Foundation subcommittee, Ansonia Village Council (1999-2002), the 1976 Bicentennial Celebration in Ansonia as coordinator, Darke County Shelter from Violence, Darke County Board of Elections, Ansonia Local Schools volunteer, Darke County Cancer Association volunteer, and participated in leadership activities at Wright State University as well as serving in numerous other organizations.  She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Union City, Indiana.  Kay enjoyed and shared her gift of music.  When Kay attended Grace Lutheran Church in Greenville, she taught Sunday School as well as music to the youth, and sang in the church choir.  She worked for many years as a private piano teacher and as a substitute teacher at Ansonia Local Schools.  Kay and husband Jim were the owners/operators of The Ansonia Inn.  Kay worked at The Darke County Board of Education and Arcorp, Inc.  She was also the bookkeeper for Jim Riffle Distributing for many years.  Kay was a graduate of Greenville High School and attended Wright State University.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by stepfather, Samuel F. Curts.

A service will be held on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at 10:30 A.M. at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Melinda Gapen officiating.  Burial will follow in the Greenville Township Memorial Gardens, Greenville, Ohio.  Family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 from 4:00-8:00 P.M. at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio, as well as one hour prior to the 10:30 A.M. service at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that memorial contributions be given to the Riffle Family Scholarship in care of the Darke County Foundation or State of the Heart Care, Greenville, Ohio.
