Celebrating
Father's Day With Compassion and Connectivity
I recently attended my daughter’s graduation at Miami University, and
while I was filled with pride celebrating her accomplishments, I could
not help but to think about how fast these years have passed. As our
children grow, these important moments seem to fly by one after the
next. On that day I began to reflect on the joyous occasion of my
first-born's graduation from college, and as she received her diploma,
my alma mater now became my daughter’s alma mater.
This Father’s Day weekend, I will spend time thinking about all of the
timeless moments throughout our lives as my daughter grew into the
adult she is today. Fatherhood is an honor that I am incredibly
fortunate to experience each day.
Often this honor is neglected, leaving too many children throughout our
state with a void during the most pivotal years of their lives. As
Chairman of the Ohio Commission on Fatherhood, I know the irreplaceable
role fathers play in their children’s upbringing and we have made great
strides to ensure that fatherhood is given the respect and attention it
deserves in Ohio.
Our work at the Ohio Commission on Fatherhood continually stresses that
fatherhood is an honor never to be taken for granted. It is something
we as fathers must recommit ourselves to every single day. The bond
between a father and child is the driving force behind the Commission
and we are dedicated to bettering the lives of Ohio’s children by
helping fathers become better parents, partners and providers.
Last month I attended the 2016 Ohio Fatherhood Summit. This year’s
theme was “Compassion, Connectivity and Celebration,” all of which are
central to the foundation of fatherhood. We must live the theme of the
2016 Ohio Fatherhood Summit by filling our hearts with compassion and
committing ourselves to our children. Through compassion, connectivity
and celebration we can come together to help all children throughout
Ohio.
On this Father's Day it is important to recognize the countless men who
take the honor and responsibility of being a father to heart every
single day. Enjoy this special day with your children and family and
cherish the moments that make fatherhood a blessing.
