"We Need God....
By Mona Lease

…in our government, in our schools, in our courts, etc." Hi, all!! I was speaking with a woman who hears these columns. She has no computer - she can not afford it. Someone tells her about these columns...which is exactly why I try to give you readers ideas. With a few added background facts (that you should check for yourselves) you should be able to make an informed decision as to whether you are for or against something.

The above-mentioned woman and I were discussing how people say they want God back in our government, school, courts, etc. I said I did not think people really understood what they were saying/asking.

The argument has always been as to whether the Old Testament has any relevance or value today. Some believe that the New Testament contains ideas and/or teachings that are no longer relevant. I wonder if the real question here is: "Is the Old Testament still applicable in God's eyes?" Would He want us to ignore His "inspired" word from those long ago days? "Inspired" loosely translates: "The Spirit of God was externally put on someone to get a job done..The 10 Commandments written down..rebuilding the Temple that was destroyed in a war, etc." Today the Spirit of God can reside inside you...so the Bible says.

Interesting fact - according to this Bible: Moses received the 10 Commandments on the mountain, descended the mountain to find his brother Aaron (who was supposed to be in charge) and the other people worshipping a golden calf hung on a wooden pole. Moses gets mad, throws down the stone tablets that contain the 10 Commandments...and they break. God says: "Ok, Moses...get back up here, we're gonna do this one more time."  (My words). I like to think that God asked Aaron if he could keep it all together while He and Moses redid the commandments. Worshipping idols was a huge no-no. Worshipping loosely translates: "Giving or acknowledging that something or someone has power and you bow down to that power for your hope, security, etc."

This God always laid out a strict set of laws - moral and physical - to be followed. In the Old Testament, people are told to "Impress these commandments on your children." Deuteronomy 5:4-22 spells out the 10 Commandments and associated blessings when you follow them. Deuteronomy 6:7 says: "Impress them (the just mentioned 10 Commandments) on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road (there were no cars then), when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates." I can't believe that this God would want us to rely on the 10 Commandments being posted in a public place that could be destroyed by arson, bombing, etc. It just does not make sense to me.

Leviticus 19:36 says: "Use honest scales and honest weights; an honest ephah and an honest hin." An ephah is 3/5 of a bushel...dry measure. A hin is 1.5 gallons...liquid measure.

Deuteronomy 1:16 says: "Then I (God) charged (told them their duty) your judges at that time, saying: "Hear the cases between your fellow countryman, and judge righteously (or rightly) between a man and his fellow countryman or between the fellow countryman and the alien (a man from another land) who is with him. (This means judge fairly between all people)."

Exodus 18:21 says: "Furthermore you shall select, out of all of the people, able men who fear God; men of truth, those who hate dishonest gain, and you shall place these as leaders over thousands."

Ephesians 6:4 says: "Fathers, do not exasperate (or provoke) your children to anger. Fathers were responsible before God - as the head (provider, protector, etc) of the household - to raise a child in the way he should go in life."

If we want God back in our government, in our schools, in our courts, etc - and He went to those places - would He really say we could forget about Deuteronomy and Leviticus?? We have seemingly already done this.... and look how that went.

Remember the kiddies and our service people. Take good care of the furry and feathered ones out there. Be safe and healthy. See ya next time. Ever Toodles!! MONA
