Versailles Bowling Week 5
Versailles Boys Varsity Bowlers Now 3-2

The Varsity Boys Bowlers recently competed in 3 WOHSBC matches against Mississinawa Valley, Lima Temple Christian and Wapakoneta.

The Tigers had no problems with Mississinawa Valley and Lima Temple Christian defeating them in both regular games and all 5 Baker Games. This made their record 3-1 going into the match against Wapak on Saturday, December 22nd at Northland Lanes in Lima. Jordan Groff led Versailles with a 227 game against the Blackhawks and Michael Davidson and Ben Ahrens led the way in the match against Lima Temple.

With Wapak already losing to Coldwater a couple of weeks ago and Versailles losing to St. Marys by 5 pins the 1st week of the season, this was a very important match for both teams.  “I told the boys we had a lot of work to do for us to even compete with Wapak, let alone beat them. We can’t overlook Mississinawa or Lime Temple, but we really need to amp up our games and fix some of the quirks in each your games to have a fighting chance.”

After two really good weeks of practice, it was Versailles against Wapak. The first game started out with Versailles in the lease after 5 frames. Wapak then started doing what they do best, Strike. Wapak ended up winning the 1st game 1,046 to 991. Versailles was led by Michael Davidson with 243 and Nathan Peters with 232. The second game the Tigers kept fighting to keep this match close.  Versailles rolled an impressive 1,034 only to watch Wapak fire a 1,065. Versailles was led by Jordan Groff with a 243 and Michael Davidson with a 242. Going into the Baker Games the Tigers were down 88 pins.

“88 pins is not hard to overcome in the Baker Games.  Keep rolling it the way you have been all day and good things will start to happen.” The Tigers did just that by winning the 1st three Baker Games with scores of 199-187, 236-214 and 213-193. With 2 Baker Games to go, the Tigers were down just 34 pins. The 4th game belonged to Wapak 181-180. “This is anybody’s match. Whoever makes the best shots and gets the breaks will win today.” Unfortunately, the breaks went the Redskins way and the ended up rolling a 210 to the Tigers 204. The final score was Wapak 3,096 to Versailles 3,057.

“These kids have absolutely nothing to hang their heads about. I hate losing as much as the next person, but what these kids showed me the last two weeks and in today’s match, I felt like we won.”
