On April 11th, 2025, at approximately 2:15 pm, Darke County Sheriff’s Deputies stopped a 2005 Dodge Durango on State Route 49 near Hollansburg-Sampson Road for a speed violation. While speaking to the occupants, deputies noticed criminal indicators present and as a result, deployed drug detecting dog “Oakley” for a free air sniff of the exterior of the vehicle. K9 Oakley alerted to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle which prompted a probable cause search of the vehicle. The search yielded approximately 29 grams of methamphetamines and 1.5 grams of cocaine. After investigating, deputies arrested a passenger, Richard Armfield, age 45, of Greenville Ohio for two counts of possession of drugs, one count being a second degree felony, the other a 5th degree felony. Deputies also seized $730.00 cash suspected to be tied to the drug activity. Armfield is currently held in the Darke County Jail pending his arraignment in Darke County Court.
