Donald E. Booker, age 103, of Greenville, passed away on Wednesday, June 4, 2025 at Oakley Place, Greenville.
Donald was born on October 14, 1921 in Darke County to the late Omer E. and Elsie (Sharp) Booker.
In addition to his parents, Donald is preceded in death by his loving wife, June L. (Hiatt) Booker and siblings, LaVera Gibson Garland, and Delores (George) Hesson.
Donald is survived by his daughter, Deborah (Richard) Sodders; his son, Craig A. (Ginger) Booker; grandsons, Joshua (Taylor) Booker and Benjamin (Avianca) Booker; step-granddaughter, Amy Sodders Sampier; great grandson, Hayden Booker; great granddaughter, Alaina Booker; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Donald served his country honorably in the Pacific Theater in World War II, where he was stationed in Australia, New Guinea, The Philippines, and Japan, and attained the rank of Sergeant. After his honorable discharge, he joined the Greenville Police Department, where he served for 30 years, eventually retiring as a lieutenant. After retirement, he worked at Sellman’s Hardware.
In his later years, Donald enjoyed working outside and mowing his grass, taking long walks with his wife, and keeping his car clean. He also loved his three Chow dogs and took them on mile walks everyday.
Donald’s faith was important to him; he was baptized at First United Methodist on September 21, 1980, where he was a member for many years.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM on Monday, June 9, 2025, at Tribute Funeral Homes, Greenville Campus, with Pastor Sam Shilot officiating. Burial to follow at Greenville Union Cemetery.
Family and friends may visit from 10:00 AM until the start of service on Monday, June 9, 2025.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Darke County Humane Society, Trustwell Living at Oakley Place entertainment fund, or Triumphant Christian Center.
