Breaking and Entering
On May 3rd, 2025 at approximately 0647 hours, I was dispatched to 849 E Main Street, The Laundry Room, in reference to a breaking and entering. Upon my arrival I made contact with the owners of the Laundry Room/victims in this case, who is Tom Hunt. They advised someone had come in, broken into a room that was locked, cut holes into the ceiling to crawl across and make entry into another room that was locked, where the subject stole random keys, cash, change, and a check made out to Lisa Jolly in the amount of $166.91. Upon reviewing camera footage of the incident, we were able to see two subjects walking into the laundry room with masks on at around 0417 hours. The subjects appeared to be a male and a female. The male subject walked around the laundry room pretending to do laundry. He took multiple clothing items and placed them in washers and dryers around the laundry room, only leaving them in for a couple minutes at a time before removing them. While doing this, the female subject walked around trying to make entry into numerous locked doors as well as the vending machine and the change machine. The female subject then made entry into a brown storage closet that was locked. While inside she tore pieces of the ceiling down in order to crawl across the ceiling and into another locked room, which contained the items that had been stolen. The female also attempted to crawl across the ceiling to access the camera room, which was also locked, however kept missing the room with the holes she was creating in the ceiling throughout the laundry mat. The male subject removed his mask early into the incident and was able to be positively identified as Leroy Brock Crawford. Leroy walked around the laundry room the entire time the female was stealing the items and breaking into the various rooms. He pretended to be doing laundry, and once she was finished and left, Leroy followed behind her. Leroy walked back off the property with the female and in the direction of the residence they were both later located in. After positively identifying the male subject, we were able to identify the female subject to be Celeste Julian, the other defendant in this case. Celeste fit the body type and build of the female subject, and I could see the defendant’s glasses that she wears through her mask she had on. Celeste caused a substantial amount of damage to the laundry room during this incident. The door to the supply closet was broken and there were numerous holes in the ceiling all over the business. The female cut power to one side of the laundry room while crawling through the ceiling. The exact cost of damage to the business is unknown at this time, however it is likely to be well over $1,000.00. The damage done affects the businesses’ ability to operate fully due to the power being damaged on one side of the building. In all Celeste stole $15 in cash, a check, 2 stacks of rolled quarters each containing $10, as well as numerous miscellaneous keys. Celeste was known to be residing at 800 E Fifth Street. Officer Wentworth, Officer Nibert, and I responded in an attempt to make contact. Celeste and Leroy had barricaded themselves in a hidden area behind a closet on the second floor of the residence. Celeste and Leroy both eventually willingly came out of the closet and were taken into custody. A search warrant for the residence was obtained to search the house for the stolen items. Located in the bedroom that Celeste and Leroy were residing in, according to all the other residents in the house, I located a basket of socks. While emptying the basket a sock containing numerous keys fell to the floor. These keys were able to be positively identified by the victim as the keys stolen from the laundry room. One key specifically belonged to the victim’s residence and another belonged to a coin drawer in the laundry room. While continuing the search, I located a bag hidden under the bed that contained rolled change inside. The rolled change was in cream and orange rollers. The victim positively identified that to be their rolled change that was stolen. While searching the residence a white Nakto E Bike with a tan Huffy seat was located downstairs in the kitchen area. This bike had been reported stolen on 05/01/25 in GPD case #25-G00578. Other residents in the house filled out statements stating that Celeste showed up with the bike 2 days prior to this incident which would be the day the bike was stolen. The residents also advised that Celeste had removed the front tire of the bike. Celeste was rnirandized and placed under arrest and her handcuffs were gap checked and double locked. She was transported to the jail and held on charges of Breaking and Entering 2911.13A F5, Vandalism, 2909.05Bla a F5, Theft 2913.02Al a Ml, and Receiving Stolen Property 2913.51A a Ml. While walking out and without being questioned, Leroy stated that he was at the Laundry Room, but he was just doing laundry. Leroy was read his Miranda Rights and placed into handcuffs which were gap checked and double locked. Leroy was transported to the Darke County Jail where he was booked in for Complicity 2923.03A2 a F5. He was released to the care of the jail staff. Torn did not wish to fill out a victim’s rights form or statement, but advised he would and turn it in later. No contraband was located before and after transport to the jail.
