Joseph M. Marshal age 93, of Versailles passed away at 9:11 am Monday, May 12, 2025, at his residence.
Joseph was born January 16, 1932, in Darke County to the late Leonard S. & Marie (Gigandet) Marshal. Joseph was also preceded in death by a grandson, Scott Marshal; sisters, Mary Evelyn Adams, Thelma Speck, Lucille Monnin, and Luella Locketfield; and brothers, Leonard “Junior” Marshal, and John Marshal.
Joseph is survived by his wife of 70 years, Joanne E. (Barga) Marshal whom he married September 11, 1954; children, Tom & Janet Marshal of Spring Hill, Florida, Bob & Nancy Marshal of New Bremen, Allan Marshal of Versailles, Lisa Kerentsew of Quincy, and Wayne Marshal of Lima; grandchildren, Jenny Eilerman, Tim Marshal, Bridget Troyer, Eric Marshal, Nicole Ratcliff, Alisha DeHart, and Kayla Marshal; 17 great grandchildren; brother, Gene Marshal of Celina; sister & brother-in-law, Marcella & Bob Downing of Greenville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Joseph attended Versailles High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954. Joseph worked at New Idea in Coldwater, 20 years at Monarch in Sidney and 29 years at G & G Tool in Sidney retiring April 1, 1994. He was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles, 70-year member of the Versailles Eagles, and a member of the Versailles V.F. W. Joseph enjoyed traveling, dancing, playing cards, gardening, and spending time with his family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Friday, May 16th, 2025, at St. Denis Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Ned Brown celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Valbert Cemetery, Versailles with full military honors conducted by the Versailles Veteran’s Honor Guard. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00 pm and Friday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 am at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home in Versailles.
