Korene “Rae” Downey, age 82, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away at The Everheart Hospice Care Center in Greenville, Ohio, on Tuesday, May 6, 2025. Rae was born in Greenville, on July 13, 1942, to the late Forrest and Elnora (Whittaker) Marshall.
Rae is survived by her children, Jerry (Angela) Downey, Vaughn (Pam) Downey, Cynthia Downey, and Allen Downey, 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; her brother, Joe (Debbie) Marshall and her twin sister; Kay Garland; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to her parents, Rae is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Arthur Vaughn Downey Sr., whom she married on December 20, 1958, at the Nashville EUB Church; her son, Larry Downey and her sister, Priscilla Hartzell.
Rae was a homemaker, caring for her family. She was a member of Trinity Wesleyan Church in Greenville. She loved to quilt and enjoyed spending time fishing. Her other hobbies included going to watch harness racing and when she was younger working in her garden and flower beds.
Services for Rae will be held on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Drew Bush officiating. Burial will follow in Miami Memorial Park in Covington. The family will receive friends on Monday, May 12, 2025 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM as well as from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Tuesday at the funeral home.
