Richard Olin Michael, age 69, of Troy, Ohio passed away on Thursday, June 5, 2025. Rick was born February 18, 1956 at Wayne Hospital to the late James L. and Jean E. (Jay) Michael. He is preceded in death by his daughter Jaime Lynn.
Rick is survived by his wife Jo Ella, his sons and daughters: Christopher and Jodi Michael, Pamela and Andrew Schanz, DJ Michael and fiancée Rachel, and Courtney and Josh Thorn, and many grandchildren: Katelynne, Danicka, CJ, Noah, Alexaundra, Mollie, Jacob, Kason, Theodore, Jane, Adaline, and one coming soon.
Rick grew up in Darke County and was a 1974 graduate of Arcanum-Butler High School where he was active in FFA and sports. Rick married Jo Ella McLear on June 19, 1976. He graduated from the Ohio State University in Agricultural Economics in 1978. God later called him into medicine, and he received his doctorate at the University of Kentucky in 1994.
Rick and his family returned to his hometown of Arcanum and served the community as a Family Medicine Doctor for many years. He later served the communities of Howells, NE, and Troy, OH. He proudly worked at the Dayton VA and finally with Gemini Health and Wellness in Troy, OH.
Rick loved all things agriculture. He was well known for “shooting the moon” in the card game Hearts. Rick’s greatest pride was his family. He enjoyed many hours of fishing and hunting with his sons over the years. He never turned down his daughters’ culinary creations. He enjoyed building Lincoln Logs with his grandsons and attending the many dance recitals and band performances of his granddaughters. He was a proud supporter of his grandchildren’s animal projects at the Darke County Fair.
Rick was a member of Troy Baptist Church in Troy, Ohio. He loved serving his church family and helping lead others to Christ.
Visitation will be Tuesday, June 10 from 12pm-2pm at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville, OH.
A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family at Greenmound Cemetery in New Madison.
