Spirit EMS to Host Community Celebrations Spirit Named 2025 Ohio EMS Agency of the Year

Greenville, OH — Spirit EMS, a prominent emergency medical services provider, invites the entire Darke County area community to participate in a special celebration honoring their recognition as Ohio’s 2025 EMS Agency of the Year.

For the past 24 years, a committee from the Ohio Division of Emergency Medical Fire and Medical Transportation Services has selected one of Ohio’s 988 EMS providers to receive the prestigious Agency of the Year award during the annual Star of Life awards, which are held each year during National EMS Week at the Ohio Department of Public Safety in Columbus. This year, Spirit EMS, headquartered in Greenville, Ohio, has been chosen for this honor.

State public safety officials will officially present the award on Wednesday, May 21.

“This recognition is both humbling and inspiring,” stated Spirit EMS President and CEO Brian K. Hathaway. “It reflects the unwavering dedication, resilience, and innovative spirit of the remarkable team at Spirit EMS over our 18 years of service to western Ohio. We are deeply grateful to our employees and the communities we serve, whose ongoing support has been instrumental in our success.”

Hathaway announced that the first of several celebration events will take place on Thursday, May 22, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Spirit EMS headquarters, located at 5484 State Route 49 South, Greenville, OH 45331. Additional celebrations are planned for Spirit’s satellite locations in Celina, Defiance, Houston, Van Wert, and Liberty, IN, throughout July.

The Houston celebration will take place from 3-7 p.m. on July 21st at the station located at 5125 Russia-Houston Road, Houston. The Celina event will occur on July 23rd at 316 Portland Street, Celina, from 9 a.m. to Noon. On July 25th, two events are scheduled. The Defiance celebration will take place at its office, located at 25288 Elliott Road, Defiance, from 9 a.m. to Noon, and then at its Van Wert location, 10852 S. Washington Street, Van Wert, from 3-7 p.m. The final event will take place at the Liberty, IN area on July 30th from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at 2281 State Road 44, Liberty, IN.

Various festivities are planned for each location.

The family-friendly Greenville event will feature smoked pork prepared by Spirit EMS staff, the popular Kona Ice truck, canine demonstrations, station tours, free blood pressure screenings, live DJ entertainment, and a range of enjoyable activities for all ages. It serves as a heartfelt expression of gratitude to the community for their ongoing support. Community members are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and savor an evening of food, fun, and fellowship with the Spirit EMS staff, who are excited to connect with the community that makes their mission possible.

The Greenville celebration is being held in conjunction with National EMS Week, observed from May 18 to 24, while highlighting the vital contributions of emergency medical services professionals. The theme for this year is “We Care. For Everyone.” This week presents an opportunity to recognize and appreciate the dedication of EMS professionals, including paramedics, EMTs, and support staff, who provide vital services to communities. This marks the 51st national observance of this special recognition week.
