Betty J. (Brumbaugh) Sease

Sease, Betty J., age 97, of Brethren Retirement Community, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 1, 2023.  She was born in Twin Township, Darke County, OH to the late Delbert and Inez Brumbaugh.  In 1944 she married Dale D. Sease at the farm and they were married for 73 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Sease as well as two children, Fred Sease (Linda) and Shanda Sease-Gunter (husband Bill).

She is survived by a daughter, Annette Stewart (Rex).

Betty was a Monroe High School class of 1943 graduate.  She was involved in school orchestra as well as baton and was the drum major. Betty moved back to her homestead in 1950 where she was raised from a small child, and began farming with her husband Dale and raised their family there in Monroe Township on her parents’ farm.  In 1978 they moved to Arcanum and lived there until moving to the Brethren Retirement Cottages in 2010.  At her cottage and the BRC she would play the piano for the residents and they so enjoyed the music.  Many times, Mom would be listening to the Gaither’s music, one of her favorite groups.  She and Dale were active church members and Betty was an Arcanum Garden Club associate member as well as the Arcanum Wayne Trail Historical Society and the local Red Hats Ladies.

Many remember Betty as an avid flower gardener and she loved working in her yard as well as keeping and cleaning house.  Many delicious meals came from her kitchen and she especially liked Christmas with preparing for the family get togethers and decorating.  Betty could be seen around town riding her bike and visiting the Arcanum library as well as serving on committee’s and being socially active.

In addition to her daughter, Betty is survived by grandchildren, Tracy Sease (Gina); Lisa Johnson, Kurt Carothers (Jackie), Michelle Carter, and Julie Carothers; Rachel Castle (Shaun) and Kenneth Stewart (Victoria) as well as numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held 3-5 pm Sunday, Aug. 6 at Kreitzer Funeral Home, 204 N. Main St. Arcanum, with services held 10:30 am Monday Aug 7. Burial will follow the service in Mote Cemetery in Monroe Twp. Pastor Kenneth Stewart, Betty’s grandson, will be conducting the service.
