Darke County Commissioners proclaim March Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month

Prior to their regular session, which was held at the DD Birchwood Center at Jaysville St. Johns, the Darke County Commissioners Matt Aultman, Larry Holmes and Marshall Combs proclaimed the month of March as “Development Disabilities Awareness Month”.

The Darke County Board of Developmental Disabilities works with more than 450 individuals.

After Katie Gilpin sang the National Anthem some of the DD individuals had the chance to address not just the people who attended the proclamation but anybody in Darke County.

They want to live, work and play as independently as they can and the Darke County Board of Developmental Disabilities provides the needed service and support, but the community can also do a lot to help and support.

They would like to have real jobs with real pay to be able to contribute to the community. They also wish to be included in activities or in a club or in many other ways. Community members have endless possibilities to include someone with developmental disabilities. Just break down barriers and reach out to them.
