Darke County Sheriff issues modified Level 3 – Mercer County Sheriff as well

In the next hour or so Darke County Highway Department Road Crews will be taking a much needed break and there will be no plows on the county roads until early next morning unless an emergency exists. ODOT will maintain crews on the State Routes throughout the night. As of this post, quite a few roads are passable with several having isolated spots of heavy drifts. Some county and township roads are impassable due to significant drifts.

The City of Greenville and many of the Village streets can be traveled as long as you do so with care.

The City of Greenville and Villages shall remain on a Level 2 Snow Advisory throughout the night as the streets can be used for travel if necessary.

Level 2 Snow Advisory – City and Village roadways are hazardous with blowing and drifting snow or icy conditions. Only those who feel it is necessary to drive should be out on the streets. Contact your employer to see if you should report to work.

Due to the significant blowing and drifting snow and near white out conditions that are expected to continue and with the lack of county snow plows running in the rural areas of the county I will be issuing a Level 3 Snow Emergency for the unincorporated areas of Darke County at 7:00pm Friday December 23, 2022 and it will remain in effect overnight.

Level 3 Snow Emergency – Darke County roadways in the unincorporated areas should only be used by Emergency Personnel. No one should be driving during this condition unless it is absolutely necessary or a personal emergency exists. Employees should contact their employer to see if they should report to work.

Please be safe and avoid travel this evening if possible.

Thank you for your patience during this Winter Storm.

Mark Whittaker, Sheriff
