Douglas Dean Leis, 79, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at the EverHeart Hospice Care Center in Greenville.
He was born on August 10, 1943, in Dayton, Ohio, to the late Ralph and Loetta (Shoop) Leis.
In addition to his parents, Doug was preceded in death by his brother, Duane Leis.
To summarize Doug’s life in a few lines would be impossible. However, we can try to characterize him with the following words: hard-working, humble, selfless, generous spirit, and devoted servant to his Lord. You could count on Doug to help anyone in need. It could be helping a stranded traveler, giving advice, or simply offering words of encouragement. He chose his words with intention and purpose. He was positive, upbeat, and kind. He had a way of making people feel appreciated and valuable. He took people under his wing and mentored those who needed it, investing in people. Lead by Christ’s example.
Above all things, Doug was a family man, devoted to Donna and going to any length to make her happy. He had the privilege of raising three daughters and helping raise five granddaughters. This unique perspective provided his girls with a very high standard by which to measure what a man should be and how a man should treat a woman. He knew exactly what to say and how to relate to his girls, molding them into the amazing women they are today. Doug’s family would like to emphasize the following phrases that he would say all the time, “Every day is a gift”, “Every day is a good day”, and “You’re okay and I’m okay”.
Doug is survived by his wife of 49 years, Donna (Vaughn) Leis, whom he married on June 18, 1973; his children, Cynnema (Jeff) Petry of Hollansburg, Ohio, Cherie (Gary) Allen of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Shannon (David) Pomeranz of Geneva, Switzerland; his grandchildren, Jazzlyn, Baylee, and Maria Petry, Madeline Allen, and Chloe Pomeranz; his siblings, Donald (Barb) Leis of Greenville, Sharon (Tom) Hollinger of New Madison, Ohio; his sister-in-law, Kay Leis of Greenville, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Doug’s life will be held at a later date.
